oxframe vs Midrender

Pick oxframe when the video lives in your repository as code, renders on your machine or in CI for free, and an agent should check its own frames. Pick Midrender when you want a visual timeline with keyframes next to an AI agent, rendering in the cloud, and a hosted product with plans.

A library you own, or a product you use

Midrender comes from the team behind Revideo, the Motion Canvas fork. Its site describes it as AI motion graphics you can still edit by hand: an agent writes the animation, and the result stays code that you can also change in a visual editor with a timeline and keyframes. You bring your own agent through its CLI or MCP, or use its own. Rendering moved to a cloud pipeline in May 2026, and there is a macOS desktop app.

oxframe is a library: the scenes are Rust files in your repository, reviewed and versioned like the rest of your code, and the oxframe CLI renders them on your machine or in CI without an account, a browser or a usage limit. The live editor (oxframe dev) adjusts timing, eases and tunable values and writes them next to the code, but you do not draw keyframes in it.

How an agent knows the video is right

In Midrender an agent works inside the product: it calls Midrender's tools, and a person can open the result in the editor. In oxframe the agent runs oxframe check, which compiles the scene, renders a storyboard and writes a JSON report of overlapping or clipped text, low contrast, motion too fast to read and other problems, each with the node and the source line. The agent fixes what the report says without anyone watching the video. The agent guide shows the loop.

When to pick Midrender

  • You want a visual timeline and keyframes next to an AI agent.
  • Designers or marketers on the team edit videos without writing code.
  • You prefer a hosted service that renders in the cloud.

When to pick oxframe

  • The video is code in your repository, reviewed and diffed like code.
  • Renders run offline or in CI, with no account and no usage limits.
  • You want open source under MIT or Apache-2.0.
  • An agent should check its own frames before it says it is done.

FAQ

Is Midrender open source?

Its engine, Revideo, is open source under MIT. We found no published source or license for the Midrender editor itself; it is a hosted product with a free plan and paid plans.

How is Midrender related to Revideo and Motion Canvas?

Revideo is a fork of Motion Canvas made by the founders of Midrender, and its README calls it the engine behind Midrender. Midrender adds a visual editor, an AI agent and cloud rendering on top.

Can I use Claude Code or Cursor with both?

Yes. Midrender connects to agents through its CLI or an MCP server. oxframe works with any coding agent: it ships skills and an MCP server, and oxframe check gives the agent a report of what is wrong in the frames.

Does oxframe have a visual editor?

oxframe dev opens a live editor with a preview, a timeline, markers, eases and tunable values that are saved next to the code. Shapes and motion are written in code, not drawn with keyframes.

What does each cost?

oxframe is free under MIT or Apache-2.0. Midrender has a free plan with 3 projects and 100 MCP tool calls a week, Pro at $20 a month, Business at $100 a month and an Enterprise plan, as listed on its pricing page.
